Letter to the editor: Setting record straight on sheriff’s ICE agreement and termination
The article “Westmoreland sheriff ends ICE partnership but vows to continue to assist outside agencies” (June 25, TribLive) notes that, though Sheriff James Albert pulled out of the controversial agreement, he still intends to support working with ICE when requested. The article stated county commissioners immediately sought to have the agreement terminated, claiming the arrangement was unenforceable. The sheriff had no authority to approve a partnership.
