H5N1 avian flu detected in wastewater sample in Kauaʻi County

This is the first detection of the H5N1 virus associated with this year’s seasonal bird migration and also the first detection of the D1.1 genotype in Hawaiʻi; that genotype is now the predominant genotype in infected wildlife and domestic poultry in the United States.
